I have a highly modified IPB running with it - maximum 14 queries. There isn't a lot of load with it.

The 'clutter' is admin driven. Two or three column, and each block is created without hacking - turn them on or off from within the ACP. You choose whether you have the forum running within the columns or as a standalone.

Actually a very clean and configurable piece of code.
