I added the phrases, added templates and have no idea.

Yes, they are supposed to say <!--Generate--> -- These templates are overridden when the who's chatting starts working.

It sounds like your chat room ID may not have been specified correctly, or it could be your server. Make sure when you enter your id in chat_global.php that it is just the number only (do not include a preceeding SC-) and that your server is either client0.sigmachat.com or client1.sigmachat.com (look at your chat room link code in the control panel to determine which is yours)
