I'd like to add a new field in the user's profile upon registration. In that field the users will add an image URL.

After the profile is saved, the image they chose will appear right below their user status.

How is that possible? I don't need any image size restrictions...

This may sound like the Avatar hack, but I think it's more simple to implement.

Any ideas would be appreciated!
