I have seen various countdown programs in Scripts directories. Some use images for the counter, which you could embed right in the text of your forum, not requiring even html, like this one.

I did a websearch and came up with a "Free" hosted counter. They have you sign up and then you can set up your counter.

I verified that it works on my forum. You don't even need HTML. You just put the address between IMG tags:

Maybe you can customize the display and colors somewhat? I know you can select the time zone. It doesn't run continuously, but updates when you refresh your page

Just to be clear, you sign up for their "free service" and they host the counter and generate the code. Supposedly, no popups or ads.

I signed up on a spam email account I keep handy.
