vb.org Archive - View Single Post - Is there software for controlling downloads?

I assume it would be a portal software but never used hacks before so don't know where to start.

Basically, I want a section to upload files of any size and then only allow users in a certain usergroup have access to download the files.

I can currently do this by making attachments and only making a certain usergroup be able to download them but I'd prefer to have it be a little more structured. Also, doing it through attachments you have to upload the file through php and I'd just like to do it through FTP so I get no timeouts.
