Maybe doing the copyright in white text might fix the problem on a background that lands wrong because the page is too long. Or you could do like I did and just purchase the branding free option.
As far as the homepage goes, I always understood that since it does use forms of vB code, then the vB copyright has to be there. There's really no way around a homepage the incorporates itself into vBulletin not using vBulletin code itself to do so, so that would make the copyright necessary, I think. At least that was always my understanding of the issue.
