we're on 2.2.9. have been for a long time.

I'm finally CONSIDERING upgrading to vb3.. but I have some questions. if I install hacks, won't I just lose them again if a minor upgrade is made and I want to go to say, 3.0.1 or something? and since we have hacks installed on the current one... would that screw up the upgrade? could we just use the database, but nothing else? ie, keep the threads, users, posts, etc, but nothing else?
