EDIT: the most important thing you need is a case. The one that comes with the iPod is terrible as it doesn't protect it. The silver back picks up skin oils and scratches really easily as does the screen. I use an iSkin although i wouldn't reccomend the white one as that gets dirty just as easily (well duh )

Dean, the battery does not die after 18 months, that was a stupid rumour made my mac haters. What is true though is that the battery will die after about 500-700 FULL battery cycles (aka, you drain the battery to death about 500-700 times).

And yeah, I agree with you on the iSkin, one of the nicest cases out today.
