This hack is for version 2. "This hack prevents remote avatars from being loaded into the database, it saved both bandwidth and space. Instead it'll load the avatar directly from the link the user gives"
I don't want users to upload avatars to my board, but I don't mind them having their own avatars (being downloaded from their own sites/storage).
From my visits to the official vb forums, they've said you can't disable the user upload in version 3, and a hack is mandatory if you want to do this.
Thanks!

Why is a hack needed for this?
Add a custom userfield in the admin control panel called "avatar" or anything you like.
Remember the field number (field4, field5, etc)
Add it to your postbit template <img src="$post[field4]" />
Then disable avatar's and you are done. Members would put the URL for their avatar in the Edit Profile section.
