Looks good. I wonder, another route that I may have gone was to get rid of the sidebar, make the forums a fixed width, work with the blacks and the greys within the main table, and have the background image (or preferably another image with some mute colors) behind it. To me that would make it a bit more clean looking and give it the little splash of color it needs.
