I work as a network support assistant at my college, and handle stupid little computer problems like this on a daily basis.

Reformatting your system is one cure, but there probably was some kind of adware/spyware or virus on her system and jacking up her network connection. Either that or her ISP was down.

We have no radio shows like that around my area, although if we did, I'm sure there'd be plenty of calls.
