It's a fact that he had an incredible intelligence, it's not a thing that you can discuss or like such as rap/hiphop hehe. You gave him a word and he will give a whole reality story back in seconds. I mean, millions of people are touched by his lyrics wich are written in minutes.
His intelligence and willingness to embrace the things he spoke about were also major draws. It's his intelligence that gives his vocals/records that undeniable power.
