Emil, I could be wrong, but it might be because you have the styles option disabled from you Admin CP. Have you checked to see if you have that enabled?

Its right under the "User and registration options" umbrella, that says "Allow Users To Change Styles". Usually, when/if the style selection box isn't showing up in your user options, it could be related to that?
