FWIW, "reinstalling" a PHP script is absolutely nothing like reinstalling a program on Windows. There's no junk it leaves that could be breaking something but the script or database itself. My advice is to simply always use the absolute latest (except possibly for RC and vB3) version of vBulletin, hack only when absolutely necessary, and be careful.
