The sony doesn't do a still pic justice unfortunately. One thing about the finepix though, they are excellent for the close shots, but in low light distance conditions, they suck. just the way the optics work.
For a good all around cam that will be used all the time, I would g with an olympus simply because that's all they do is optics. So it's a given that they know their ++++. BUT, for general purpose video and still, including lowlight, I would go with one of Sony's new digital camcorders. They've an extremely low lux rating which allows them to "see" in the dark. And the stills come out pretty good, as well as the video if you transfer it via USB2 or firewire. My two cents on that
