I have 23" monitor so can take some lots screenshots as well. I find I have to constrain my browser window offen to see how it could look. I've been playing with the forum home, display home and post & no post forums a lot lately...

a good program to get while messing with this stuff is called, 1st Page 2000 & Ultraedit 10a+...

1st page 2000 is freeware, and I find it's awesome for previewing templates and making quick hack changes to templates. It has the old school html edit, with a tab to preview code, works great with php templates.

I run my monitor at 1600x1200 so find that this is very useful I hope it works for you as well...
