thanks. i feel like i'm on a treasure hunt here. lol.

well, i commented out the call to nl2br line hoping that it would simply remove the <br>'s around the vB Code HTML... it did. unfortunately, it also ensures that no <br>'s get put anywhere in the post... not a good thing.

so, it seems that accomplishing what i'm looking for is going to take a lot more understanding of the code... unless somebody happens to know a quick trick here. this is obviously nothing something dire, but it would be nice to have the formatting look the way i want.
