You should enter your email address, not your username. It's been a while since I've seen the email that they send out.

But you *MUST* use the same email address at vb.org (here) and vb.com (there) and then enter THAT email address in the box.

If that doesn't work and you still cant' get in, I'd suggest sending an email to
support@vbulletin.com (be sure to include your email address, customer number, and url)
