Go back to vBulletintemplates.com and do a search for a hack by "Xiphoid." He released a hack that had like 5 different things in and it was called something like "Tweak your Frontpage." In there, he has instructions on how to add baground images to your category, you may have to change some things because of the updates since then, but it will defintely give you some direction.
