They never used to charge for registration but their server costs are absolutely insane, and so is their bandwidth. They cut down on bandwidth usage on the forum but they never realised that huge image on their main page did they =/.

$5 for registration is quite the profit though, imagine that they get around 2000+ registrations per month, but now of course it will be cut down to about 200+ registrations, but 200 x $5 = $1000, which I just realised only just about pays off their bandwidth usage.

So they don't make much profit but they're just trying to keep the place together.
