ok, i would naturally assume that would be the obvious conclusion.

i had checked and made sure from my end all the information is correct.

i tried steve's suggestion on editing my user options before i posted this thread. i also tried it again after he posted that suggestion to be sure.

however, upon triplechecking my information, i discovered that my email address as listed at vbulletin.com had been truncated somehow and the last couple of characters were left off. it wasn't easy to see since my email address exceeded the form field. so i typed in those missing characters and my problem is resolved.
