if one changes the thread title days later, other users following this thread or subscribed to this thread will get confused.

For example you now receive a mail mentioning that:

Logician has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - editing topics? - in the requests forum of vBulletin.org Forum.

If TaP has changed it to "Please help me" in the meantime, you would not understand which thread I'm replying..
