the board won't slow down

that is until your host throws you off for too many queries or your forum dies due to transfer overlaod or the database having to many connections... just say in another thread a member's host was going to kick him off cause he had 90+ queries running on the forumhome

and the categories are suppose to work like that they're autoincrement
