I've only done vB4 and that was to get the
vB4 CMS articles into Wordpress as pages/posts.
BBPress and BuddyPress don't suck, it's just a major lack of features that you normally see in full-fledged forum software. Well I suppose if you want similar features, then sure maybe they "suck" from a feature-rich standpoint.
I do see many using Wordpress as their CMS with vBulletin or Xenforo as the forum. There is actually a super-awesome plugin called
XPress that integrates your Xenforo theme into Wordpress and you can play with the variables and show data from Xenforo even if you don't use the built-in theme. I'd love to see someone develop similar for vBulletin 5 + Wordpress to be quite honest! I prefer VBulletin to Xenforo on all things except integrating with Wordpress only due the above plugin.
