What I think a moderation notification should look like is:

When a moderator views a forum page, there should be a moderation notification icon appearing only when there is a posting requiring moderation in the moderation que. This would eliminate emails where several moderators get them, but only the first one has to actually moderate it. The job has been done by the time the others have a look.

Maybe someone has seen something like this?
