At present, no...I would have to add a setting for that. I will think about other exclusions as well, like age of last post in threads, etc.

You can disable the listing of subforums altogether, but to make it a collapsible element as you describe would require additional coding in the form of an auto-template edit.

I chose displaying an icon with a tooltip rather than using space on the page because of the variable length of forum names.
