Fortunately, when they released 7.1.x they kept the stuff deprecated in 7.0.x (like constructors) rather than removing them. Had they removed them, it would have been real chaos.

Instead they decided to make other changes (for example, around performing mathamatical operations on strings) which is causing a few problems (much harder to detect as well).

JFYI, the next 3.8.11 & 4.2.5 Beta releases should be later this month.
