if you're using async ads you cannot run both async & sync in the same page- it'll give you a white page.

Async ads have to be wrapped in vb literal tags to work. Sync ads do not and will return a white page if you use them.

You have to put your async code in the header just below the following:
<base href="{vb:raw basepath}" /><!--[if IE]></base><![endif]-->

If you go any lower, the ads wont render & you'll get a white page.
