I have pretty much the same problem. The FIRST time I insert a photo, it defaults to "From Computer" but every time after that, it defaults to "From URL" - I want the default to be "From Computer" EVERY time. Why should the default change? If it can't default to "From Computer" every time, it should default to use the the last method used to insert a photo. Disappearing external photos are a real problem for us, and we want to discourage them, NOT default to do it that way after the first photo has been uploaded. We have a lot of TOTALLY USELESS threads because the external photos have disappeared.

Also, the only option in PM's is to enter a url - there is no "From Computer" option.
