I'll admit my wording was coloured by my own frustrations. The fact is, vBulletin 5's priorities now rest solely in the hands of bean counters. To them, making the product more modification friendly is the tiniest of blips, as their data most likely suggests that the vast majority of forum owners do not install any modifications.
For that reason, it makes more sense to them to focus on trying to make the product contain the same features as the previous version (

That's also the reason why they decided to implement our "Advanced User Tagging" product into the core vBulletin product - a lot of people requested it and voted for it in Jira.
Since our ability to eat is directly tied to our ability to produce quality products, vB5 is not a viable strategic location for our (very limited) resources at this time.
