Both forums are growing strongly on search engines and they are getting good traffic. I think, our targets are running right direction.

Change is not always good, even for the better when it comes to a well established forum. I'd recommend any new startup forums to have a well designed and functional responsive style since they will be attracting new younger "social media" types who all pretty much surf the web on mobile devices only, and don't understand how a forum should look or work.

I have to agree with you about these points, to be honest, I didn't care about responsive template in years ago but since the amount of users that using mobile devices increased dramatically in recent years then it's a must to have responsive design for forums, thus we convert vB default theme into responsive design and it is working as well and helping our forum more.
