Uhh... Let's see, I have a bunch of subdomains, and not a single one of them are the same as domain.tld/whatever. It can be like this of course, but it doesn't have to.
whatever.domain.tld is in essence the exact same thing as
www.domain.tld. In many cases it's just an alias to some part of the 'mother' site, in other cases it's on a server on the other side of the planet. Personally, I have a few development sited on subdomain, where I mirror the main domain to get a test platform that has the exact same setup as where stuff will run in the end. I also have subdomains where friends of me that are on cable with static IP's have their webpages. I merely point the said subdomain to their computer, etc...
Enough ranting. Most likely noone understood squat of what I just said, but I'll press the submit button anyways...
