Yea thats the sidebar I use, doesn't work in showthread with a fixed width.

It depends on the vB default template hooks being present. Therefore it won't appear on some custom styles. On all 22 of my custom styles both fixed and fluid, this sidebar appears in showthread. You are missing a template hook in your showthread template.
