im looking for a plugin that would auto assign a person to a user group biased upon the outcome of an api pull.

so the api info would be entered into each persons user profile
would be triggered by them submitting the information
the script would pull the api (returned as xml) and compare id##=1234

if it matches would add user group number # into the user group database for that member
if it fails to match, it would either do nothing, or change the user group to registered only.

would also be nice if could have the option to run this on all users. but not a necessity

has anyone seen anything that could do this, or able to write this please?
