It's a nice concept but it use way too many resources. I'm afraid it's got to go. I've got up some pretty tricky Q and A so we'll see how that goes.

Yes, I found it was using a lot of resources too, but if you look at the Spam-O-Matic log files, you can reduce the load by blocking IPs that regularly try to register anyway.
Among the ones that were hitting my site too much but being blocked by Spam-O-Matic were:
91.200.12.102
91.200.12.170
91.200.12.23
91.200.12.27
91.200.12.46
91.200.12.66
91.200.12.68
91.200.12.69
91.200.12.72
91.200.12.94
I had blocked these before discovering the association with the log files in glowhost, so check these too:
91.121.221.15
62.210.152.87
136.243.75.162
218.205.17.150
60.169.75.155
212.7.217.2
218.205.17.168
221.178.182.182
61.160.212.57
91.200.12.66
91.212.124.147
91.212.124.159
91.212.124.185
46.229.164.98
90.155.154.76
46.229.164.99
46.229.164.100
46.229.164.101
46.229.164.102
Spam-O-Matic stopped the forum spam, but it seems to cause a server load if you allowed the IPs to continue hitting.
