Aside from social groups, there is one other way.

However, it's only possible for Admins/SuperMods (with Admin permissions).

To do this:
- You'd need to allow only X usergroups to view/post in Y forum.
- The Admin/SMod can change X user 'additional' usergroup to a usergroup that can view Y forum.

I don't think there is currently a modification that allows 'moderators or chosen members' the ability to invite X members into a exclusive forum section.
