I was looking into this at one point and I could not find any real useful solutions but there are many forums I have worked on with very, very large tables(usually post tables) with no issues. I mean 20 or 30 gig tables!

I think you need to go back to a dedi with that big of a site. If you are crashing now it is due to your host limiting your resources most likely.
