I put together a simple add-on that will add a ribbon very simlar to the screenshot in the first post. I had to enlarge the image so that the inline mod checkbox wasn't obscured:

To use it, download the .zip file, extract and then upload the contents of the "upload" folder to your root directory, and then install the product .xml file.

In the product settings, enable the product, and set which usergroups are staff.
