The way I did mine in 2014, was just:

Uninstall vbseo
Install dbseo

And just make sure the Url Rewrite settings match up... takes some manual adjusting but it's super easy. Never had a single issue doing it this way.

Of course buying the pro version is always an option if you're worried about messing something up though

The last time I checked I believe they said it uses about a third of the resources that vbseo used in comparison.
