Try this plugin for "forumdisplay_query"

Code:

$sqlsortfield  = "thread.threadid";
$sqlsortorder = "ASC"; // or "DESC", whichever way you want
$sqlsortfield2 = "";

This will override any previously defined values. Thread id's are in the order of posting time. See forumdisplay.php, line 944
