Do you have a lot of people subscribed to the thread, and if so, what are your email settings for "use mailqueue" and "use cron based sending"? Someone else was having a similar problem recently and it turned out to be a delay due to sending the subscription emails. That person seems to have fixed it by the mailqueue and cron-based sending.

It could also be a javascript problem. Maybe open your browser javascript console before saving and see if you get any errors there.
