I like VB5 and see potential for it in the future when people get used to the coding style. Features like the comments which we use heavily on my site are what I like about it. A lot of the issues people have with VB5 including myself, are self induced by messing with settings that should not be messed with. For example, the channel member and channel owner permissions settings among others. I agree they should be able to be modified, but should be available in an advanced AdminCP state with a warning stating the issues that may arise from changing them.
Current developers may not like it or even ever write code for it, but new developers coming in on VB5 who take the time to learn the coding structure will eventually replace the void. It's not impossible to write code for VB5, it's just different. Good documentation would help bring developers to the platform. IMO, this is just as big of a problem if not more than the missing hook system.
