Hmm...I looked over the code and couldn't see why a custom style would make any difference, but I may have missed something. Do you have any other PM related mods installed? There could be a conflict with something else.

When you look at the bbcode for your pm, do the quotes look like

...oh, I guess you could go to the Private Message Options in the settings and make sure the mod is enabled, but it should be enabled by default so I can't think why it wouldn't be.
