Depending on what you are doing you might just want a 3rd party chatbox.

Our shoutbox in on a vBulletin board. But our BBS is part of a large sports site. We had to put the two sites on different servers to handle the load. I think I got this figured out with you and and another guys help on the anchor question on the main vb4 forum.
