If this is just a passing thing, a fad or a hobby for you, and don't plan on mass membership and posting, you're better off with a good shared hosting.
As far as the traffic you have now, any decent shared hosting can handle it and much much more.

This is my situation. I have almost ZERO membership and practically NO traffic. My hobby is doing the graphics and tweaking the site. I just paid less than $100 for 4 years of hosting. Sites never down, runs smooth, and I couldn't be happier. For almost 6 years prior to this new host I was paying about $200 a year for the same thing. I know it's not a lot of money but as long as it supports what I enjoy doing, I'm going to stick with the dirt cheap.
BUT, If I had say 50+ members on a regular basis, I would not settle for anything less than VPS hosting.
