I am planning to promote good forum posts as articles. Will Google penalize me for duplicate content if I plan to keep the original forum thread?

I experimented by promoting forum threads. I wanted the forum replies to appear as comments in cms area but the replies are missing. What am I missing?
My settings:
Comments: yes
keep original thread: yes
Move to comments forum: No
All comments: Yes.
Is there anything else that controls this?
