Here's a test from right now.

There's no improvement because you haven't done any of the optimization work needed.

Click on the letter grades you see at the top right corner of the WebPageTest page and it explains the issues and how to fix them.

Your site isn't bad off at all, it's nothing terrible like alot I have seen.

Use that test to determine what your mods do to page load, by turning off the hooks in adminCP>Options>Plugin/Hook System then running a fresh test - force the vB default style while doing this test. This will give you a baseline.

It will show you the effect the modifications and the custom style have on pageload.

This isn't a guessing game, it is a scientific approach. It just takes some time and some desire to improve.
