Back to the King!
I was a kid and was staying at my grandmas due to my mom being in the hospital. She lived in the city and I was outside in the tiny backyard looking for something to do when my grandma came out and told me. I was so sad about it because I had learned to play many, many of his songs on my guitar. I believe I was about 5 or 6.
I remember he died at age 42 which was the same age his mother died I believe. I also remember talking to my mom on my grandmas big black dial up, corded phone and my mother crying about Elvis. Here she was in the hospital for nearly 2 months and her biggest pain was the loss of the kink.
He was supposed to do a concert in Hartford after that time and my folks had tickets. They saw him once or twice already.
Let's be real about this. No performer has ever come close to Elvis in terms of talent, presence, etc. Everything is just so different now and is just so dammed commercialized.
I think in 200 years from now there will still be Elvis impersonators in Vegas. Nobody will remember people like Justin Bieber.
Great topic. Brought back some memories I have not thought of in a very long time!
