Too true. And when it's obvious that there has been no research on their part, motivation drops as well. The whole "Can you do my homework?" high school attitude is a real turn off.

If I can tell that the person has made an effort at solving the problem and is stuck, I'll spend the time to help them out. Heck, I've spent 3+ hours in a day debuging code for people who I know are giving a good effort and really want to learn.
