Not true, it's originally posted as a free product on another old thread & then the ultimate edition has been developed & the thread reflected both life & ultimate editions features for all interests.
Also this lite product is fully functional in it's own & can be extended with PHP & REGEX knowledge to reach some level similar to ultimate edition. If you need a simple link checker/verifier then use the lite edition, otherwise if you need it for heavy work & with premium support & extra extensibility then go for the ultimate.
Finally, this kind of products that provides lite & ultimate editions doesn't break any policies of vBulletin echosystem.
